Gary Brown serves as the National Technical Assistance Coordinator for the Division of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (DCVMRC) housed in the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR). In this capacity, Gary oversees national-level technical assistance initiatives and directs the activities of DCVMRC’s 11 Regional Coordinators while also supporting the mission of OEM and ASPR. He facilitates communication, coordination, and collaboration between the MRC Regional Coordinators, DCVMRC staff, and national-level program partners. He also provides key support in the development and implementation of many of the DCVMRC’s efforts to enhance the development, capacity, and sustainability of MRC units.
Gary has extensive experience in emergency planning, operations, and training. Prior to his current position, Gary served as an MRC Regional Coordinator, consulted in emergency management and homeland security, managed the emergency services program for a regional council of governments, and worked in local emergency management. In addition, Gary served in the U.S. Air Force.
Gary received a master’s degree in of public administration from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
