Profile:
The mission of the Norfolk MRC (NMRC), located within the Norfolk Public Health Department, is to engage health care professionals and non-medical support personnel in helping the community prepare for, respond to, and mitigate emergencies, disasters, and pressing public health needs. The NMRC provides a group of readily trained and available volunteer professionals who supplement and assist local medical emergency response systems in emergencies and augment public health in routine daily operations. The NMRC serves a county community of 66 square miles with almost 245,000 residents living in over 100 diverse neighborhoods. It is the cultural, educational, business and medical center of Hampton Roads, hosts the world's largest naval base, the region's international airport and is one of the busiest international ports on the East Coast of the United States. It is also the home to NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (norfolk.gov).
