Portsmouth Health District Medical Reserve Corps ( 389 )

Portsmouth Medical Reserve Corps volunteers are both medical and non-medical trained professionals who assist local emergency management services during emergencies and participate in public health initiatives that improve community health. Physical characteristics of the City of Portsmouth make it vulnerable to flooding as seen in Hurricane Isabel in 2003. In addition, the possibility of chemical spills and terrorism threats are high due to the Naval Shipyard and shipping terminal located in Portsmouth.
