The Near Southwest Medical Reserve Corps (NSMRC) is a group of healthcare volunteers, both clinical and non-clinical. The sponsoring agency for NSMRC is the Near Southwest Preparedness Alliance (NSPA). NSPA is the regional healthcare coalition based in Roanoke, VA, which supports regional healthcare preparedness for 23 jurisdictions in Southwest Virginia. This region also encompasses 2 EMS councils, 5 public health districts, 17 hospitals, and 55 Long Term Care Facilities spread out between 7600 sq. miles with a population of approximately 960,000.
