Crater Medical Reserve Corps ( 1456 )

The Crater Health District Medical Reserve Corps is a group of dedicated health care professionals and community members who are ready to lend their support in the event of a public health emergency or activity. This unit serves the Crater Health District which is comprised of the cities of Petersburg, Hopewell, and Emporia, and the counties of Dinwiddie, Greensville, Prince George, Sussex, and Surry. Under the direction of the U.S. Office of the Surgeon General, these volunteers are trained to act in the event of a public health crisis and are ready to serve when they receive the call. The Crater Health District Medical Reserve Corps consists of practicing, retired or otherwise employed medical professionals, as well as community members with non-medical skills. Physicians, nurses, and paramedics are just examples of the types of medical professions that are recruited to volunteer. Clergy, language interpreters, administrative assistants, and all other members of the community are also encouraged to consider becoming a part of this unit. We ensure that our volunteers are trained in core MRC competencies and Emergency Preparedness and Response. We also keep our volunteers informed of various community public health activities that occur where their assistance may be needed.
