Piedmont Medical Reserve Corps ( 1136 )

Unit Description: The Piedmont Medical Reserve Corps, a part of the Piedmont Health District, is being developed to help Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward counties, a largely rural area with a population of approximately 115,000. As the volunteer branch of the Piedmont Health District, the Piedmont MRC works with Virginia Department of Health employees to address surge capacity in a local disaster, including assisting mass prophylaxis/vaccination clinics or other major public health needs. The unit is forming partnerships with the Red Cross, VOAD, area mental health services, OEM, Citizen Corps, and other local resources to develop a coordinated response to a disaster. The unit has developed a core curriculum based on the suggested MRC core competencies. These MRC volunteers will be included in exercises being planned by the County Department of Health Services. We encourage all prospective volunteers to register with the MRC by going to, going to the “Become a VA MRC” button, and selecting the online application for Piedmont MRC. Please contact the Piedmont MRC Coordinator shown in this listing for further information or assistance.
