Profile:
The Perry County Medical Reserve Corps was formed by EMA, RSVP and the Health Department in a joint coalition in recognizing the need for medical resources in our county. Due to the lack of a medical facility (hospital or urgent care facility) in our county the MRC would be an asset to the community in a disaster. Our goal is to enhance the emergency preparedness for Perry County by utilizing volunteers for planned events and all hazard disasters. In an attempt to recruit and train MRC members we have partnered with the Emergency Management Agency, the Health Department, RSVP, Schools, the American Red Cross and Citizen Corps. The volunteers will consist of Active and Retired Medical Professionals that include Doctors, Nurses, Veterinarians, Emergency Medical Service, Pharmacisits and Medical Technicians. Other non-medical volunteers are needed and will include individuals from around the county. The Health Department held a drive-thru flu immunization clinic in November 2007 which provided 730 shots to the citizens of the community. Volunteers from EMA, CERT, RSVP, American Red Cross, Law Enforcement and the Schools worked together with the Health Department to accomplish this successful event. Volunteers from the Perry County MRC were once again utilized in this same event in Octoer 2008 to assist the health department in making this a smooth and successful day and we vaccinated more than 920 people. We anticipate this event growing each year and greatly rely on our volunteers for assistance.
