MRC volunteers at the Pool of Siloam Medical Ministry assisted in the set-up and operation of a church sponsored warming shelter at the New Room for chronically homeless adults for 8 days during a sub-freezing weather emergency. Prior to opening the shelter, volunteers visited encampments to encourage men and women to seek shelter and provided blankets and food to those who chose to stay in camp. Volunteers provided first aid, comfort items and medical care and remained on site round the clock for the first 4 days, then 12-18 hours per day.

12/16/2009
Unit participated in a state-wide LAVA Call-down drill. Based on an increase in H1N1 Flu activity, the scenario called for mobilizing volunteers to participate in immunization activities. Nurses, physicians and pharmacists were sent internal, email, and voice notification (phone, pager, fax, and SMS/Text) and asked to respond that the message was received.

9/1/2009
Laminated flu information cards were de signed and are being distributed to chronically homeless patients at the Pool of Siloam Medical Ministry and on outreach through a partnership with Hope for the Homeless Coalition.
