Profile:
RROMRS Medical Reserve will be a part of Rural Region One Medical Response System which is located in Northeast Nebraska. The area covers 22 counties, 20 hospitals and 5 regional health departments. Representatives from each hospital and health department agreed that it would be beneficial if there was one Medical Reserve Corp that covered this entire region. Ginger Bailey is the RROMRS Coordinator and will be overseeing the development of RROMRS MRC. Ann Keenan will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of volunteers. Currently there are seven Medical Reserve Corps that have been registered in the State of Nebraska. All seven of these Medical Reserve Corps have formed a committee that will maintain consistency of volunteers and their training throughout the state of Nebraska. This is important for Nebraska as a state so that if there is a regional disaster the Medical Reserve Corps from other regions in the state will have the same training and expectations as the MRC in the affected area. The purpose of RROMRS Medical Reserve Corps is to provide assistance to and meet surge demands during a disaster. These disasters could be natural or man-made, and affect public health or the acute care system. The response could be immediate or several days after the event to provide relief. RROMRS MRC is associated with the Madison County CERT Team and Citizen Corp Council. This Council is the oldest council in the state of Nebraska. Al Worley who is the President of the Madison County CERT team is also a trainer for newly formed CERT teams throughout the state. Madison County CERT team is also associated with Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department as that is the group that will manage and run the SNS receipt and delivery for northeast and north central Nebraska. In the RROMRS area, the MRC will focus on the recruitment, training and retention of licensed medical professionals while each health department will focus on the recruitment, training and retention of non-medical professionals. These databases will be shared so that there will be a seamless and non-duplicating recruiting process. The health departments and RROMRS MRC will have joint exercises. This is to ensure that each group is aware of everyone’s expectations and that all activities flow correctly.
