The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps recognizes the importance of having an organized group of licensed professionals and other community members for a quick and efficient response to public health issues. A priority is personal and family preparedness first. The unit focus is emergency preparedness and response. This may include supplementing and assisting other community emergency response partners and systems. The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps has a free orientation program that prepares volunteers utilizing the Core Competencies. The role of the individual volunteer is matched to their skill, knowledge and specialty. FEMA’s “Are You Ready” Guide is distributed which addresses an in-depth guide for citizen preparedness. We are planning on assisting all volunteers to complete ICS 100 and 700 requirements. NIMS 100% compliance is a goal. Incident Command is discussed with distribution of FEMA IS 100 and 700. Training will be standardized for all. We are collaborating with the Northern Panhandle Medical Reserves in West Virginia, where we are supporting each other’s programs to share staff and resources in a public health emergency. Our geographical and commerce areas are closely entwined. The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps recruitment plan includes distribution of official MRC information at all public events and activities to target a broad group of inspired individuals who wish to make a difference in our community. This will be an ongoing process of both active and passive recruitment efforts. We currently have a very diversified and motivated group. Volunteers are not limited to medical professionals. All community members are welcome to assist in essential supporting roles. An invitation to join can be found on belmontcountyhealth.org. or go to serveohio.org

The Belmont County MRC participated in a Southeast Ohio Regional Meeting. MRC unit leaders gathered and brainstormed. Discussions were on our best practices and success and how we could support each other. Other issues addressed were trainings for the volunteers and recruitment. Ohio State Coordinator was there along with the ESAR-VHP state coordinator. The SEOhio Regional Medical Response coordinator was also there. Amoung the 10 unit leaders there, all were known to each other from previous activities, so the atmosphere was relaxed. We decided to meet quarterly due to the great success of this meeting,
