Profile:
The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps recognizes the importance of having identified, screened/credentailed professionals for a quick and efficient response to public health emergencies and current issues, such as the recent Influenza Pandemic immunization efforts. A priority is personal and family preparedness first. The unit focus is emergency preparedness and response. This may include supplementing and assisting other community emergency response partners and systems. The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps has an orientation program that prepares volunteers utilizing the Core Competencies. Training sessions are free and the training objectives are based around the Core Competencies. The role of the individual volunteer is based upon their specialty. The Belmont County MRC coordinator and 2 other key volunteers have completed ICS 100, 700, 200, 800, 300 and 400. We are planning on assisting all volunteers to complete ICS 100 and 700 requirements. NIMS 100% compliance is a goal. Incident Command is discussed with distribution of FEMA IS 100 and 700. FEMA’s “Are You Ready” Guide is distributed at the initial training, which addresses an in-depth guide for citizen preparedness. Training will be standardized for all. Close contact with our Southeast Ohio MRC Regional Coordinator is maintained with presentations offered by this staff. We are collaborating with the Northern Panhandle Medical Reserves in West Virginia, where we are supporting each other’s programs to share staff and resources in a public health emergency. Our geographical and commerce areas are closely entwined. The Belmont County Medical Reserve Corps recruitment plan includes distribution of official MRC information at all public events and activities that it is associated with, including presentations for community Chambers of Commerce, faith based organizations, EMS, schools and hospitals. At health fairs and county fairs, brochures and posters will be displayed along with the state MRC Tabletop display. This will be an ongoing process of both active and passive recruitment efforts. Our recruitment goals are to enroll quality interested individuals willing to give their time and efforts for the overall functioning of the unit. We currently have a very diversified and motivated group. Volunteers are not limited to medical professionals. All community members are welcome to assist in essential supporting roles.
