Profile:
The Stark County Health Department is a dynamic organization dedicated to providing high quality public health to all the citizens within Stark County. As such, the Stark County Health Department, with the support of the Canton City Health Department, Alliance City Health Department and Massillon City Health Department, has established the Stark County MRC Unit. Our unit has been created in response to the obvious needs of Stark County and at the behest of the U.S Surgeon General's office. It is anticipated that our unit will strengthen the already existing programs in Stark County by providing expertise on a year round basis and during times of extreme need. Our mission is to establish, maintain, educate and update a task force of competent medical volunteers. This county wide group will be prepared to provide immediate ongoing assistance in all areas of emergency situations, as well as, everyday medical concerns. The unit will offer continuing education and serve as a learning resource for both medical professionals and others who have an interest in emergeny situations. We have worked to unite the existing public health resources with our volunteer base to provide creative situations for all county needs. This is something we will continue to address as we work to complete the organization of our unit. Our goal is to foster professionalism and apply it to the knowledge that is already available. We periodically publish short articles in professional newsletters to recruit and continue raising awareness. We currently have 7 secured VRC sites throughout Stark County ready to be utilized should a disaster take place.
