Profile:
The mission of the MRC within the Escambia County Health Department is to engage health care professionals in helping the community prepare for, respond to, and mitigate emergencies, disasters, and pressing public health needs by providing a group of readily trained and available volunteer professionals who supplement and assist local medical emergency response systems. The MRC has more than 300 active medical and nonmedical professionals who have acted on a desire to volunteer their time and expertise during emergencies. The MRC has promoted its mission, established its policies, procedures, and protocols regarding operations and conducted recruiting initiatives within the medical community and the community at large. One of the most pressing initiatives is staffing provisions at a Point of Dispensing during a mass immunization/prophylaxis campaign.

Recent Activities:
8/21/2010
The MRC of Escambia County in cooperation with the Escambia County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) conducted FEMA Independent Study Program IS-100.a onsite course training in Pensacola, FL. Participating Volunteers included members of the AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) as well as members of Escambia Search and Rescue (ESAR).

MRC of Escambia County Volunteers participated in a three hour Diversity Appreciation and Conflict resolution training sponsored by the Escambia VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Coalition in Pensacola, FL.

7/20/2010
MRC of Escambia County Volunteers participated in a local Escambia Community Emergency Response Team disaster drill by assisting as exercise evaluators and players during the event. The scenario involved disaster medical operations and medical triage functions after a Hurricane disaster at the Bayview Community Center, in Pensacola, FL.

A Special Needs Shelter (SpNS) Operations and Management Course was offered at the Northside Escambia County Health Department location by the Florida Department of Health Region 1 Vulnerable Population Coordinator/Special Needs Shelter Consultant in Pensacola, Fl.

MRC Coordinator participated in a Florida MRC Network Program Office Two-Way Communication Videoconference that focused on local MRC Coordinator Orientation Training in Pensacola, FL. The purpose of this training was to provide the latest updates on developing and managing a local MRC Site.
