| Profile: |
The Lowcountry MRC is a locally-based region-wide medical-personnel resource whose purpose is to augment, assist and support the existing medical and public health systems during disasters, public health emergencies, and in areas of public health need. This unit recruits members by making presentations at professional organization meetings, health fairs, and other community gatherings. The unit has a core of about 55 volunteers and has developed a core curriculum based on the suggested MRC core competencies. The unit is comprised of both medical and non-medical volunteers from Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. These MRC volunteers will be included in exercises being planned by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Region 7 Office of Public Health Preparedness. We encourage all prospective volunteers to register with the Lowcountry MRC by going to http://www.scserv.gov. Please contact the Lowcountry MRC Coordinator shown in this listing for further information or assistance.
