Profile:
The Pueblo of Zuni is working toward establishing an Emergency Preparedness component via LEPC and a MRC. The Pueblo of Zuni is in a unique position as this is a sovereign Tribal entity and we will recruit, train and provide leadership to community volunteers. The MRC function will be to educate the community about Emergency Preparedness utilizing traditional, culturally appropriate materials and language. We will assist in assessing local risks, vulnerabilities, and needs and begun to integrate the MRC into the Tribal Emergency Management Strategic and Operational plan. The Zuni MRC will be involved in participating in exercise drills and training provided by the Emergency Managers (Tribe/City/County) as well as other entities in our community. The Zuni MRC will be participating in the State of NM Coordinating Council and coordinating with other MRC units in organizing public health outreach services and training opportunities. In addition, the Zuni MRC will coordinate disaster medicine training with the UNM Center for Disaster Medicine. MRC members are affiliated with the NM Emergency Managers Association, the Native American Emergency Managers Association, the McKinley County LEPC, and LEPC-Medical.
