Profile:
Beginning May 1st 2006, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Lake Charles, LA, funded the Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps (CMRC) program. CMRC is housed in the Calcasieu Parish Office of Community Service. The Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps program is designed to assist Calcasieu Parish by building a team of healthcare professional including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, mental health and support personnel that will activate and augment the existing medical response during a man-made or natural disaster. In addition, the CMRC team will address community needs and public health education and assistance on a daily basis.

7/29/2010
McNeese State University Community Care Clinic. Free clinic to eligible ciitizen. One of our RN volunteers assists each Thursday during clinic hours.

7/24/2010
Back 2 School Bash Safe &Healthy Me Collaborative. MRC partnership with LACHIP,WCCH,CPPJ. Health checks were provided. Parents could choose from BP's,height/weight, dental screen, vision screen. 500 backpacks filled w/school supplies were given out. Immunization records were reviewed and shots were provided. Parents & kids were able to visit various vendors from the local community. Pizza and cold drinks were provided to all.

7/22/2010
Full Scale Evacuation Drill conducted. Volunteers played the roles of citizens evacuating the city. Volunteers were loaded on buses, tagged, triaged, registered in the PHEONIX system and loaded on buses heading to shelters.

PHEONIX training: Volunteers were trained on the software system that is used to register citizens during an evacuation. Volunteers could choose from an am or pm session. Volunteers were able to practice on the test site and actually use the software.

6/21/2010
TEEN CERT Academy - RN conducted Disaster Preparedness Kit presentation to approximately 75 teens. Displayed items from preparedness kit/discussed what makes a good disaster kit. Played Alphabet Game where kids brainstormed things to go in their own kits using each letter of the alphabet. Played Teen CERT Quiz Bowl(powerpoint.) Quizzed teens on disaster preparedness.
