Allen County MRC will work with community partners such as the Citizen Corps, area hospitals, leaders of local teaching institutions (i.e. Ohio State University-Lima Campus), local business and the county EMA Director, to establish a Medical Reserve Corps unit based on the needs of the county. The focus of the Allen County MRC will be to recruit, train and retain volunteers for public health emergencies.
Volunteers will be recruited from institutions affiliated with licensed professionals such as Rhodes College, The Ohio State University-Lima, University of Northwestern Ohio, Apollo Career Center, Lima Area Medical Association, as well as local dental offices, opticians, optometrists and numerous therapy practices.

Unit leader Tom Berger participated in an interview on WLIO for national preparedness month. Tom discussed the importance of having a personal emergency plan for you and your family. Tom displayed items that are recommended in an” Emergency Kit”.
Also during the interview Mr. Berger discussed the importance of volunteer response in an emergency. Tom urged citizen to register on serveohio.org to become part of the Allen County MRC.

The first monthly meeting for 2009 for Allen County MRC will be held at the newly restored Bluffton Town Hall. We will meet at 7:30 PM. The preparedness planner for the Allen County Health Dept will be speaking on the recent training session he attended in Alabama. This was presented by some of our nation`s top disaster planners. We invite anyone interested to attend. We continue to recruit for new membership.

An ACC Simulation Day is planned for June 20 from 8:00 AM to 4:00PM at the OSU Branch Campus in Lima Ohio. This activity is a collaborative effort of Allen,Auglaize,Mercer, Putnam and Van Wert Counties in Northwest Ohio, the Ohio Hospital Association,Five area hospitals,local health depts. and emergency services organizations. An AM session will be presented to help educate and coordinate the attendees regarding the purpose and function of this part of the preparedness response in case of a surge population event. The scenario will be a panflu epidemic. Participants will view an ACC setup and discuss the process of moving people thru the facility for care. Open discussion will be held at 3 learning stations thru the event. An afternoon session will begin at 1:00 which will be a repeat of the AM session to facilitate busy work schedules.

A regular monthly meeting of the Allen County Medical Reserve Corp will be held Tuesday 6-17 at the Family Planning Clinic of the Allen County Health Dept. Meetings are at 7:30PM.
