Profile:
The Medina County Health Department, in cooperation with the Medina County Commissioners and the Medina County Emergency Management Agency, has developed the Medina County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The Medina County MRC will supplement existing local emergency and public health resources utilizing both medical professionals and others during times of need. To be ready to provide the rapid response needed in a disaster, volunteers need to be trained and organized. A key function of the Medina County MRC is to provide members with specialized training and preparation. Volunteers are needed during both emergency and non-emergency situations. In conjunction with public health, emergency, and other medical professionals, the MRC will help strengthen response efforts within the county. Please contact the MRC Coordinator shown in this listing for further information or assistance.

Recent Activities:
11/9/2009
MRC volunteers have been utilized since the end of October working various H1N1 clinics. They have provided services ranging from vaccinations to providing information. More recently we have started H1N1 clinics in various school districts where MRC nurses have assisted during those clinics providing vaccinations.

In November the Medina Health Dept. implemented an H1N1 hotline to address the volume of incoming calls regarding H1N1. The hotline is open daily from 9am-1pm and at least one MRC volunteer is on staff each day to answer the public's questions about H1N1 vaccine and influenza. We anticipate that this hotline will remain active during the H1N1 pandemic.

10/13/2009
Various messages sent this month to request staffing(medical/nonmedical) at H1N1 clinics throughout Oct. and November. These requests may be ongoing as clinics are scheduled and need for additional personnel is determined. We plan to hold an H1N1 hotline this month as well and have asked MRC volunteers to assist in staffing the hotline to answer calls related to H1N1 flu and vaccine.

10/6/2009
Sent a MRC alert message to volunteers to assess availability and request for personnel during H1N1 clinics and events.

9/12/2009
Held MRC Introductory training for new and interested volunteers. Partners from local EMA, Red Cross and Fire Dept participated in the training.
