Profile:
The Duxbury Bay Area Regional Medical Reserve Corps began organization as the Duxbury Medical Reserve Corps in April of 2006. Since October 2006, the neighboring towns of: Duxbury, Hanson, Marshfield, Pembroke and Whitman have joined together to form The Duxbury Bay Area Regional Medical Reserve Corps. The enthusiastic response to this regional effort has brought growing interest in the MRC activities and an increase in our volunteer base. A steering committee, consisting of members from each of the communities, has been organized and continues to work together to: increase volunteer recruits, set both day and evening training schedules to meet our volunteers' availability, and prepare for Emergency Dispensing Site Exercises in all of our partnering towns. On June 16, 2007 the Duxbury Bay Area Regional MRC was asked to participate in running an Emergency Dispensing Site (EDS) Exercise/Drill with The Duxbury Board of Health and Duxbury Emergency Management. We had a fantastic turnout of volunteers, who represented all of our partnering towns! In attendance were a number of Regional Emergency Planners and the Region 5 Emergency Preparedness Coordinator representing the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Duxbury Emergency Management, Fire and Police as well as a representative from the Marshfield Police and Emergency Management were all impressed by the organization, coordination, skill level and general operations of the exercise as a whole. Specifically everyone noted the exceptional quality of our volunteers! There were lessons learned and we are looking forward to our next exercise sometime in the fall, in conjunction with the Marshfield Board of Health and Emergency Management. The Duxbury Bay Area Regional MRC continues to hold monthly meetings for updates and trainings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7pm. The meeting location is rotated to include all of our participating communities. All Duxbury Bay Area Regional MRC meetings, trainings and events are posted on the Duxbury Town Calendar. We are excited to report that discussion and design is underway for our own MRC web site that will be linked to each of our partnering towns. Check back for update information. Come to a meeting. Bring a friend! ALL are welcome to attend the Duxbury Bay Area Regional Medical Reserve Corps meetings. Remember, you DO NOT have to have a medical background to be a MRC volunteer-Bring your skills, energy and enthusiasm. We hope to see you at our next training session!
