Profile:
The Hocking County Health Department and the Hocking County Citizen Corps are working together to create the Medical Reserve Corps for Hocking County. It is our plan to create a volunteer corps that will be prepared and trained to respond to both public health emergencies such as mass prophylaxis, alternative alternate care facilities and natural disasters such as floods and tornadoes. Our goal is to create a strong corps of local volunteers that will be ready, willing and able to assist in times of great need.

The Hocking County Health Department conducted a Full Scale Point of Dispensing Exercise in conjunction with the abstinence education program Back to School Bash. This exercise consisted of 425 middle school students participating by means of flowing through the POD and then entering into a dance afterward. The purpose of this drill was to test the proficiency and feasibility of using the Logan-Hocking Middle School. It was also used to evaluate onsite incident management, communications and mass prophylaxis including timing of patients. The exercise was developed and conducted by staff members at the health department in cooperation with representatives from various local agencies.

The Hocking County Health Department conducted a Full Scale Pandemic Influenza Exercise. This exercise consisted of a drive thru clinic which flu shots were given as the prophylactic/vacation. The purpose of this drill was to test the proficiency and feasibility of a drive thru clinic. It was also used to evaluate if this should be written into the plan as a means to quickly and efficiently prophylax/vaccinate the county population, that consists proximally of 30,000 people.
