Profile:
The Southeast Nebraska MRC was initially formed in August of 2005 by action of the Metropolitan Medical Response System of the Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department under an agreement with Volunteer Partners, the community volunteer center. In the summer of 2007, the unit expanded it's coverage area to 16 additional counties in the southeast region of Nebraska; thus changing prompting our unit to change it's name from the Lincoln/Lancaster County MRC to the Southeast Nebraska MRC. Our unit is actively recruiting medical professionals and 'well intentioned' volunteers within the communities we serve. To date, our database includes representatives from the Nebraska Air National Guard, Navy Hospital Corps and local and rural Fire Departments. Currently, there are plans being developed to standardize forms, policies and procedures, and minimum training requirements for MRC volunteers to be utilized by MRC Units across the state. This plan will also include the integration of the state's Emergency System for Advanced Registration-Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP) program. This is to ensure a centralized database of medical volunteers designed to coordinate medical resources for the state of Nebraska. Our goal is to prepare and enhance the volunteer capacity of local health professionals for emergencies and strengthen the public health infrastructure within our community, including emphasis on public education.
