In September of 2006 we celebrated our 1st birthday! It was a great milestone that also celebrated our recruitment and orientation of 64 volunteers who are spread across our six county region. Currently we have 79 volunteers. This year was filled with many successes: · Establishment of a great steering committee · Publishing of strong polices and procedures · Creation of our volunteer handbook · Execution of five orientation meetings · Development of volunteer requirements · Purchasing of volunteer backpacks · Continuous educational meetings with county commissioners and city councils · Creation and dispersal of our quarterly newsletter · Building of relationships with local hospitals · Creation of our customized database. · Hosted two appreciation dinners for our volunteers. We are currently working on: · Large scale public relations/recruitment campaign · Establish agreements with local hospitals and clinics · Participate in a large scale exercise with the health department During our first year of growth we feel that we have truly accomplished a lot. We plan to continue making strides which will help our region be more prepared, while using the extremely skilled and talented citizens within it. Since the onset of 2007 was have come to realize that our volunteers are extremely busy folks who want to help when needed, but don't have a lot of time for dinners and other activities. Therefore we have simplified our registration process. Each interested volunteer will received an orientation packet, upon completion they can turn in their paper work to a steering committee member who will take their picture and send it on to the coordinator. Once everything is approved their MRC ID badges will be sent out to them. We hope that this will allow more people to volunteer. We currently have newspaper ads and radio ads running to help recruit more volunteers. In September 2007, we sent a UNIS alert to the MRC volunteers for the SPHERE exercise. We simulated calling out the volunteers to assist in a alternate triage site. As of October 2007, We now have 75 volunteers and are continuing to have people calling to inquire. We are hosting three preparedness nights, one in Sanpete, Sevier and Millard counties. We will have several presentations for sheltering in place and for Pandemic Influenza. During April 2008, we had 10 volunteers from the CUMRC that attended the statewide summit in Park city, Utah. There were breakout sessions on PODs, volunteer liability, psychological first aid and public health's role in a disaster. It was a very good training opportunity for our volunteers. As of June 2008, we have 82 volunteers and continue to recruit for new members. In September 2008, we held trainings in Millard, Sevier and Sanpete counties for the Strategic National Stockpile and POD trainings. We were able to recruit 10 new MRC volunteers at these trainings. We are planning on having another training in January to meet more of the Core Competencies. These trainings will be held quarterly. We also had three mass vaccination/ POD exercises with flu vaccine. We had some of our MRC volunteers participate in these exercises. The exercises were held on October 3, 2008 in Juab, Millard and Wayne counties simultaneously. We continue to send out a quarterly newsletter to our volunteers. We have set up presentations for Psychological first aid for our volunteers and we are also inviting other partners for the presentations. We will have a presentation in each of the six counties. We will also be having a state MRC summit in April 2009. Since October 2009, we have been having mass vaccination clinics weekly in each of our six counties. We have been utilizing our MRC volunteers to help staff these clinics. It has been very helpful to have our volunteers helping out as we do not have enough staff to run all clinics. Some of the CUMRC volunteers attended the Utah Responds summit in Snowbird on April 22, 23. We have been holding training meetings in all counties for MRC volunteers to be updated on the SNS/ Points of Dispensing plan as well as getting background checks done. All meetings will be held in April and May 2010. Currently we have 142 volunteers. We have held trainings in all six counties for points of dispensing sites and SNS. At these meetings, volunteers were fingerprinted for full background checks. Previously we have done limited background checks. Utah now has the ESAR-vhp website up and running, it is the Utah Responds database. CUMRC is in the process of entering volunteers into the system.
