The West Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps serves the citizens of the West Central region of Nebraska by augmenting emergency systems during times of local, state, or federal public health emergencies. Our MRC Committee includes emergency managers, public health departments, hospitals, behavioral health, and various volunteer organizations. The West Central NE Medical Reserve Corps Committee falls under the structure of the West Central Medical Response System.

MRC Coordinator met with State ESAR-VHP and other MRC Coordinators to begin the development of a statewide ESAR-VHP/MRC Plan that will include developing recruitment and retention strategies for MRC units.

The MRC Coordinator participated in a meeting with Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy, Gary Brown, Region 7 MRC Coordinator, Al Berndt, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, Chris Newlon, R.N., Administrator, Preparedness and Emergency Response, Division of Public Health, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Jamie Moore and Tom McMahon, Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Medical Reserve Corps, and Melanie Hooks, Southeast Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps, in Lincoln. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the possibility of appointing a Statewide MRC Coordinator to ensure that the MRC units in Nebraska are integrated into emergency preparedness efforts.

The MRC Coordinator participated in a meeting with Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy, Senator Joel Johnson, District 37, Al Berndt, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, Joann Schaefer, M.D., Director and Chief Medical Officer, Division of Public Health, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Darrell D. Klein, Assistant Agency Counsel, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Roger S. Keetle, Legislative Aide to Senator Johnson, Dave Bacon, M.D., Laura Meyers, TRIMRS, Jamie Moore, Nebraska/Western Iowa Medical Reserve Corps, Linda Munderloh, RROMRS Medical Reserve Corps and Melanie Hooks, Southeast Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps, in Lincoln. The purpose of this meeting was to make the State Representatives aware of the confusion throughout the state concerning the Nebraska Emergency Management Act and its protection of medical volunteers.
