| Profile: |
Three Rivers Medical Reserve Corps, a part of Three Rivers Health District, was started in 2008. Three Rivers covers a 2000 square mile area that is mostly rural but borders both the Richmond and Hampton Road Metropolitan Areas. The unit includes 10 counties with a population of approximately 143,000.
Three Rivers MRC Volunteers support the local health department offices weekly by working with each office manager. The unit partners with the three local hospitals and local county governments to provide assistance in emergency exercises and to strengthen the areas capabilities in emergencies. The unit also works with the only CERT team in our district sharing education and exercises. Three Rivers is recruiting volunteers by giving presentations, attending health fairs, and speaking at civic group meetings. The coordinator is actively involved with resource sharing groups in 3 of the counties. We encourage administrative volunteers to join as well as medical professionals by going to www.medicalreservecorps.org
