Profile:
The Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a county-based volunteer program for both medical and non-medical volunteers and is a collaborative county effort coordinated through the Lorain County General Health District. The purpose is to assist and support local communities in preventing, protecting against, responding to, and recovering from man-made and natural disasters, acts of terrorism, outbreaks of infectious disease and/or other health-related events. Recent Activities:
8/22/2010
The Lorain County MRC and Lorain County CERT programs honored their volunteers with a Citizen Corps Volunteer Appreciation Night at the Lake Erie Crushers minor league baseball game. Volunteers and their families enjoyed a day at the ballpark, and volunteers were recognized for their dedication and service with an on-field ceremony before the start of the game. The CERT and MRC units also had tables set up inside the stadium with personal preparedness information and recruitment materials.

7/30/2010
The Lorain County MRC participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington, Ohio. MRC members and their families walked during the event to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for cancer. The unit also had a table and tent at the event where the public could get information on joining the program and personal preparedness. This was the first time the Lorain County MRC participated in this type of event.

6/9/2010
In order to augment the efforts of the local unit, the Lorain County General Health District, coordinator of the Lorain County MRC, hired a current MRC member as an intern to work with the unit's coordinator this summer. The intern will work on projects such as the annual volunteer traning day in September, recuitment events, community outreach and volunteer trainings.

A representative of the Lorain County MRC attended the rescheduled Integrated Training Summit in Las Vegas from June 2 through June 5, 2010.

5/26/2010
Over 70 volunteers were recognized for their efforts with the fall and winter H1N1 clinics. The H1N1 Hero pins, copy of the unit's Certificate of Appreciation and thank-you letters were mailed to the volunteers.
