Profile:

The Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) works collaboratively with the local Emergency Management Agency and other Emergency Response Programs in a seven-county area to provide the necessary "surge" capacity needed during the first 72 hours after a disaster or community emergency event. MRC volunteers recently assisted the Omaha community following a summer storm that resulted in extensive damage by providing behavioral health service to those in need. The MRC is an exceptional group of over 500 professionals that are ready to assist in emergency and non-emergency situations. This diverse MRC Unit of medical and non-medical volunteers assists the community with a variety of local events providing, first aid, blood pressure screening, flu shots and whatever is needed to keep the partcipants at an event safe. Volunteers assisted Offutt Air Force Base medical staff in providing first aid at its annual air show.

8/14/2010
Volunteers participated in an area-wide disaster drill (plane crash into a crowd) in preparation for the Offutt Air Force Base Air Show. Our volunteers assisted with triage, behavioral health and first aid at the Family Assistance Center, and decontamination at two hospitals.

Provided first aid at several venues during the international Maccabi Games.

Provided first aid at the Omaha Triathlon.

Volunteers did blood pressure screenings at the Nebraska Disaster Behavioral Health Conference in Omaha.
