Profile:
Ledge Light Health District (LLHD) since 1993, serves its member towns to provide public health services. The district in addition to meeting health protection and assurance also facilitates partnerships on a local, regional, and State level. Ledge Light Health District is the primary planning and response agency for public health emergencies covering 9 municipalities, and approximately 155,000 populations. The area encompasses both urban and rural settings, global business headquarters, military installation, major port and shipping destination, transportation hubs, along with hosting a nuclear power plant. Ledge Light Health District formedthe Medical Reserve Corps in 2007. They work closely with their partners in Region 4 (eastern part of CT, especially the two other MRC units.The Medical Reserve Corps played an integral role during the 2009-2010 H1N1 Pandemic, helping to staff the 60 H1N1 vaccination clinics.

Training for new members was held on MRC, Standard Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens

A tour of the local airport was given by the Fire Captain to familiarize the volunteers with the layout in case of deployment for an incident, sheltering or quarantine needed of incoming passengers. This was a joint program with the American Red Cross.

8 new MRC volunteers since the Hotwash/MRC Orientation in April!Some MRC volunteers recently attended a Psychological First Aid skills building workshop sponsored by Yale and CT DPH

An H1N1 clinics hotwash and an introduction to MRC was held one evening in April with over 26 attendees. Dinner was provided with dessert later on in the evening.After the hotwash, an orientation to the MRC was held.The notes from the hotwash were sent out to all clinic volunteers along with a volunteer packet inviting them to join MRC.

23 large H1N1 clinics were held with over 10, 300 doses provided. 56% of the volunteers were vaccinators with others serving as greeters, form reviwers, vaccinator assistants and observation.
