Generally, NGOs play important, trusted roles in a community and can provide vital support to an MRC unit. Often, they have a broad range of experience, including emergency response, volunteer utilization, event planning, and fundraising, among others. The MRC coordinator must work with key agencies in the community, establishing the MRC as a legitimate venture in this larger network. Simultaneously, some political knowledge is necessary to avoid crossing other agencies or organizations and to develop their support where skepticism may exist and resolve conflicts with partners.
