MRC Unit Focus The Tahoe Forest Church MRC unit’s goal is to assist doctors, nurses, and medical professionals in the event of a communitywide disaster or medical emergency. The unit’s primary mission is to provide logistical support to healthcare professionals during public heath emergencies or regional disaster situations. Volunteer Background Information Nate Farnell is a youth pastor at the Tahoe Forest Church. What did the Volunteer do to be in the Spotlight? Mr. Farnell was involved in his first emergency response when he traveled to the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina. He was part of a team of volunteers that reviewed damage caused by the hurricane and visited locations where other MRC volunteers were involved in relief efforts. He organized another trip to the hurricane-affected area of Bayou La Batre, AL, with high school students during their spring break. Mr. Farnell obtained financial support from other organizations to sponsor the trip. He was part of a team of volunteers that assisted with remodeling and repairing homes damaged by the hurricane and installed drywall and flooring, painted, pressure washed mold, and removed debris. When and why did the Volunteer Join the MRC? Mr. Farnell has been with the MRC for 2 ½ years. He saw the MRC as a great volunteer organization that would give individuals the opportunity to support the community in an emergency. Interesting Facts In response to Hurricane Katrina, the Tahoe Forest Church MRC raised funds to send nebulizers to hospital clinics in Mississippi and held a drive to rebuild houses in the Gulf Coast region.
