When was the Unit Founded? The unit was founded in July 2005. What Drives the Unit?The primary mission of the Natrona County MRC is to provide support to first responders and others in the event of a mass casualty event. The MRC provides medical support services at events to train and prepare to support the community in the event of a disaster. How Many Volunteers Does the Unit Have?The Natrona County MRC has 35 volunteers. How Large is the Unit’s Staff?The staff consists of the MRC Director, the Assistant Director, and Administrative Assistant, who divide their time between the MRC and health department. Why was the Unit Selected?The Natrona County MRC is an active unit that has made itself a visible asset to the local community by partnering with emergency response partners, such as the Casper Fire Department, and providing medical support at various large public events. What are Some of the Unit’s Activities?The Natrona County MRC has an ongoing partnership with the City of Casper, Natrona County, and municipality fire departments to monitor vital signs and provide rehydration and electrolyte replenishment to fire fighters responding at extended scenes. On April 29, 2006, the Natrona County MRC volunteers acted as medical support during a Federal Bureau of Investigation evidence search exercise that included participation from local law enforcement and Community Emergency Response Teams. At the end of June, volunteers will provide medical support at the “Powder River Sheep Herders Fair and Rodeo. On July 22 and 23, 2006, the Natrona County MRC will provide medical assistance at the “Wings Over Wyoming Air Show,” which will be attended by between 6,000–10,000 people. On July 29 and 30, 2006, the Natrona County MRC will provide medical support by providing first aid and monitoring vitals at the “Beartrap Meadow Blue Grass Festival,” which will be attended by approximately 3,000–4,000 people. What are Some of the Unit’s Accomplishments?The Natrona County MRC sent eight people to Mississippi to support a clinic during the 2005 Hurricane Response. Also, additional MRC volunteers, with a local church in Casper, were deployed to the area to support a church in Gulfport.
