Since SALF began in 1995, the organization has provided life-sustaining first aid training to more than 1 million school children by using EMS professionals as instructors. The life support training courses are provided to adults at a low cost. The proceeds collected are used to benefit SALF training to school children. The program’s success made it possible for them to become an affiliate program of Citizen Corps in 2003. In 2005, SALF formed a partnership with the MRC to increase community awareness and participation during emergencies. The partnership will allow MRC members to be recruited as SALF instructors to provide training to all citizens, beginning with children in schools.
