Organization Spotlight - August 2006

Save A Life Foundation logo - Emergency Preparedness for the Bystander The Save A Life Foundation (SALF) is a national non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide life-supporting first aid skills to the public so that citizens can assist if they are bystanders in an emergency. The organization supports its mission by providing free training to school-aged children so they are equipped with life-supporting skills throughout their lives.

Since SALF began in 1995, the organization has provided life-sustaining first aid training to more than 1 million school children by using EMS professionals as instructors. The life support training courses are provided to adults at a low cost. The proceeds collected are used to benefit SALF training to school children. The program’s success made it possible for them to become an affiliate program of Citizen Corps in 2003.

In 2005, SALF formed a partnership with the MRC to increase community awareness and participation during emergencies. The partnership will allow MRC members to be recruited as SALF instructors to provide training to all citizens, beginning with children in schools. For more information about SALF, visit their Web site at www.salf.org.
