2005 Stories From MRC Volunteers

After returning home, many volunteers will find that they are just starting to process their experience, and this part of the process is telling their stories. For many of our volunteers, immersing themselves in the lives of those they served was an educational and transforming experience. We would like to share stories from MRC members about the connections they made while participating in the Hurricane Response and Recovery efforts as MRC volunteers.

If you have volunteered in response to the devastating Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, whether through national deployment or in your local area, the MRC Program Office would like to know about your experiences and share them with others. Through sharing information, we can better understand the role that MRC units and volunteers are playing in relief efforts across the country, learn lessons through each others’ experiences, and promote the power of what one person, or one MRC, who donates their skill and time can achieve when reaching out to help those in need.

To tell your story, please e-mail MRCcontact@hhs.gov with your name, the MRC unit of which you are a member, contact information, an account of the activities you participated in as an MRC volunteer, and any pictures of the events that you have. We are interested in stories about local activities (i.e., evacuee assistance, preparedness drills, and backfill for hospitals and clinics), and those from volunteers who deployed to assist in the affected areas. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
