President Bush Recognizes MRC Director

October 20, 2005

Dr. Raymond Goodman, Director of the Los Angeles Medical Reserve Corps, met President George W. Bush at the base of Air Force One at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, October 20, 2005. He was greeted by President Bush as he landed in California for a two-day fundraising trip. When shaking hands, Dr. Goodman offered, “Mr. President, welcome to sunny California.”

President Bush recognized Dr. Goodman with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his volunteerism and dedication to his community. The two men spoke for several minutes, and Goodman shared his commitment to community and individual responsibility with the President.

“The award is an honor for me, my family, and thousands of volunteers around the country,” Goodman said. “It is a day I shall never forget.”

Dr. Goodman, a former professor at UCLA's School of Public Health, has been director of the Los Angeles MRC unit since it was created 3 years ago. The group of volunteers is comprised of 500 medical and public health professionals, and 100 chaplains.
