MRC Mental Health Work GroupThis work group, co-chaired by Dr. Pat Santucci of the Southwest Florida MRC and Dr. John Hickey of the Nassau County (NY) MRC, is looking into disaster mental health and psychological first aid training for the MRC. They are in the process of developing core competencies and reviewing various training programs that are presently available in disaster mental health. If you are interested in pursuing this initiative further, please contact Dr. Santucci at santucci@pol.net. University-Based MRC Work GroupThis work group, chaired by Dr. Ed Kantor of the University of Virginia MRC, looks into the unique issues that affect MRC units that are sponsored by or partner with universities. One of the goals of this work group is to develop some guidance for other colleges and universities that may wish to establish a university-based MRC in their local communities. Only a few university-based or affiliated MRC units currently exist. Participation in this work group will not only give your group the opportunity to support and advise others looking to strengthen a 'university' MRC model, but will help to enhance your local MRC unit's overall capabilities. We recognize that each MRC is locally based to meet the needs of the local community and that your MRC unit may vary from others in terms of organizational structure and mission. However, there may be many common principles, successes, obstacles, etc. that can be shared. If you are interested in pursuing this initiative further, please contact Dr. Kantor at EMK2E@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu. He will be setting up a conference call with work group members some time soon. MRC Surgeon General's Priorities Work GroupThis work group, co-chaired by Bilkisu Danjaji of the DeKalb County (GA) MRC and Denise Garrett of the Fulton County (GA) MRC, is just being formed to develop guidance on ways that MRC units can become more involved in meeting the Surgeon General's priorities for public health. If you are interested in pursuing this initiative further, please contact Bilkisu Danjaji at bidanjaji@gdph.state.ga.us or Denise Garrett at dlgarrett@dhr.state.ga.us or in her office at (404) 730-1572. MRC Sustainability Work GroupThis work group, chaired by Laurie Nelson of the Howard County (MD) MRC, is just being formed to look into issues surrounding sustainability of MRC units, especially alternative sources of funding such as Foundations. The goal of the group is to develop guidance on ways that MRC units can become more sustainable. If you are interested in pursuing this initiative further, please contact Laurie Nelson at lnelson7476@aol.com. Last Updated on 5/6/2009 |
