A recruitment video produced by the Upper Merrimack Valley MRC recently earned a prestigious international communications award. The 2005 Dalton Pen Awards (see http://www.daltonpen.com/) chose "Being Prepared Just Makes Sense!" for an Award of Honor, in the category of Writing–Scripts and Speeches.

The judging committee evaluated hundreds of international entries to recognize outstanding projects. Most of the entries in the competition came from world-class Fortune 500 organizations.

The MRC that submitted the recruitment video is based in Massachusetts, where the host agency is the Westford Board of Health. This MRC represents seven communities in the Upper Merrimack Valley, located northwest of Boston. Both the coordinator, Nancy Burns (who scripted the video), and the director, Sandy Collins, will attend the awards ceremony on April 22. The gala event takes place in the Pan Pacific Hotel Ballroom in San Francisco. Coincidentally, the annual 3-day MRC conference ends the afternoon of the 22nd in the same city.

Commander Robert J. Tosatto, Director of the MRC national program, located in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General, also will be on hand to represent the MRC, from the national level, at the gala. Many of the attendees are world-renowned for their expertise across various fields of communications: Corporate—Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway, with honoree Rev. Cecil Williams; Broadcasting—Renay San Miguel of CNN and Meredith Viera of The View; Magazines—Nora McAniff, Executive Vice President of Time, Inc; Music—Rev. Al Green, musical artist; Arts and Entertainment—actors Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.
