![]() Home > Regional MRC Coordinators > Kathy HandraRegion IV MRC Regional CoordinatorKathy Handra currently serves as Regional Coordinator for the MRC Program in Region IV encompassing the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Her responsibilities include the provision of technical assistance and support to new and existing MRC units within Region IV as to program planning and implementation. Ms. Handra works closely with individual units to advance the U.S. Surgeon General’s public health priorities and coordinate with the goals of the office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps. Prior to her current position, Ms. Handra previously served as the MRC State Coordinator in Florida for a period of over two years and was presented the Davis Productivity Award for volunteer recruitment efforts toward the statewide MRC program. Her education includes an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Manatee Community College in Bradenton, FL and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from the University of South Florida. Ms. Handra has over 25 years of experience in the area of Human Services provided in non-profit entities, local, state, and federal government in four states; Ohio, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. Her previous positions include Executive Director of two non-profit agencies in Florida; Mana-Sota Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. (a rehab facility for the visually impaired serving Manatee and Sarasota counties), and We Care Manatee, Inc. (an agency providing primary and specialty health care to uninsured and underserved populations in Manatee County through volunteer health care professionals). Ms. Handra is a firm believer in serving the community. At the age of sixteen, she was one of the first Head Start volunteers in her county of residence in Ohio. During study hall in her senior year of high school, she was a teacher’s aide to a special education class and graded tests for her typing teacher. Ms. Handra was a five year member of the American Red Cross in Ohio where she received training as a shelter manager. She has taught liturgy classes to children, grades kindergarten through third grade, as a member of her church in Sarasota, FL. Ms. Handra was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where she resided for a period of thirty years prior to moving to Florida where she lived for a period of approximately twenty-five years. She spent two years in Virginia working on federal grant funded projects. Ms. Handra moved to Atlanta, Georgia in August, 2009. Her family includes two siblings, a brother and sister, who currently reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ms. Handra is proud of her role as great-great aunt to her niece, Carley. Last Updated on 12/28/2009 |
