Samuel Schaffzin, M.P.A.

Mr. Samuel Schaffzin is the National Technical Assistance (TA) Coordinator for the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. In this role, he coordinates the outreach and sustainability efforts of the 10 Regional Technical Assistance Coordinators working in the DHHS regions. In addition, he supports the program and strategic management processes; assists with the development of policies and procedures for TA issues; assists with the development of program documents; participates in MRC-related meetings; provides and/or coordinates TA responses to MRC communities; creates and maintains a network of experts who are available to provide TA to the MRC communities; documents best practices; and informs MRC units of program developments and other salient events and activities related to public health or developments that may affect relationships with MRC communities.

Previously, Mr. Schaffzin served as the MRC Regional Coordinator for DHHS Region III (DE, MD, PA, VA, WV, DC) by providing ongoing TA and outreach to existing and developing MRC units. His experience includes working for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross as Disaster Health and Mental Health Services Coordinator. Prior to joining the Red Cross, he managed outpatient clinics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He has additional experience in program development, grant writing, health advocacy, and health promotion.

Mr. Schaffzin holds a Bachelors degree in Public Health from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, and an M.P.A. in Health Policy and Management from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
