Zagame, III, R.Ph.Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Public Health Service Lieutenant Commander Joe Zagame serves as a Program Officer in the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. He is responsible for helping to coordinate programmatic and operational activities in support of MRC units nationwide. LCDR Zagame previously served as the Assistant Health Services Administrator at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, United States Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for the management and direction of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team that provided comprehensive medical care to an inmate population in a maximum security correctional setting. Prior assignments included service as the Assistant Health Services Administrator at the Federal Detention Center Philadelphia, and the Chief Pharmacist at the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution. LCDR Zagame has been deployed several times with the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) Commissioned Corps, including a tour at the Kosovar Refugee Health Clinic during "Operation Provide Refuge." He is currently a member of the PHS Rapid Deployment Force Team 1. LCDR Zagame has been a PHS officer since 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy with a minor in Psychology from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. Prior to joining the PHS, LCDR Zagame served for more than 10 years on active enlisted duty as an Aviation Technician with the United States Marine Corps and with the Marine Corps Reserve.
